AH GONG LEARN CHINISH~!~!
Recently also got the debate on the changing of module of the chinese in order to make it "easier" to learn.... i feel that by making it "easier" it means that the standard will be lowered and once the standard is lower it would be very difficult to rise back again... I belive it is not the first time that they have lowered the standards and maybe one day it will become like Japan where english is the second language and they start to learn english only when they reach secondary sch? Imagine how it would be like to tok English to a ginna in Japan?
Learning language is all about intrest, Without interest there will be no point in learning coz you won't be able to do it well... Ok i admit i didn't do well for my chinese nether did i do well for my english... dats becoz i didn't have much intresting in learning both of them and i found it difficult and i prefer singlish instead of proper engrish...
I think its better to change the content and method rather then empisizing on the "reducing the difficulty"... I remembered that my sec 3 chinese teacher is a good example of how to make learning chinese interesting.... His teaching methods are totally out of the box and he is always full of ideas and he is the only chinese teacher that manages to keep me interested...
The name of the teacher is Summer Low very wierd tio bo guy who name himself summer... Yes he is weird he can spend the whole 1 hr lesson discussing things that are outside the textbook then he also can spend 1 hr lesson to teach 3 chapters at one shot becoz he finds that the textbook is dead and that textbooks are boring but bo bian coz he nids to teach the stuff in the textbook so when he lags behind the lesson plan liao he teach textbook lor...
He likes chinese history, can draw very well, knows all those tang shi song chi... I think the syllabus of that yr is about chinese dynasties and the famous stories in those dynasties... So i remember the first few lessons he was talking about all those chinese dynasty and the klass test he set is very different from those usual test... he made us remember all the dynasties name all those blah blah xia, shang, zhou, qin, tang, song, yuan, ming, qin... actually got how many dynasties i also forgot liao but confirm less then 20...
Then his test to name every dynasty that china have plus he give us dictation is those tang shi so his test also got fill in the blanks for those tang shi... he nv give comprehension his test is all fill in the blanks and zhao ju... and the top 3 students i remember he got give them ang bao as rewards...
His teaching methods are very different also he can juz draw some pictures on the black board and teach and tok tok tok tok tok then rub away the pictures draw other pictures and tok tok tok tok tok... there was once the lesson was abt the poem dan yuan ren chang jiu then around that time Faye also just released a song wherby the lyris is taken enitrely out of that poem... So he recorded the song and then when he teach he makes us listen to that song over n over n over n over again...
His dictation also power always make us memerise those poems i think i learnt at least 10 poems in that yr alone which is impressive considering i do not read chinese books wan.... During the moon cake festival period he even ask us to cai deng mi... he would draw a picture on the blackboard the ask us to guess a word, a pharse or even a road name...
There was one deng mi that i still remember he drew a person standing on wooden poles aka "cai gao qiao" and he ask us to guess a road name... he even offered a $20 ang bao to those who know the answer... when no one knows he slowly give hint and every hint he give he reduce the money so from 20 become 10 become 5 become 4 then in the end still no ones know to answer... The answer was JALAN KAYU coz wood = kayu, walking on wood = JALAN KAYU...
But the thing we liked him most was that he was often not in klass to give lessons or he will come in late give 15 min lesson then walk out liao or he will give give 1/2 hr lesson the chao liao wahhahaha.... there was even a period where he didn't even teach for 1 whole week... He was in charge of the volleyball team and our sch was then famous for its volleyball so he often went to conduct training for the volleyball team or do his own stuff or he had to attend to his personal matters or he juz got no mood to teach... There was once he ask us to go down to support and cheer the school team when we were having his lessons... Yeah he gave us a lot of free time to sleep in school... and yeah we were also branded as the most talkative and most noisy klass in school coz we can talk non-stop and even managed to make a few teachers walk out of our klass juz becoz we were too noisy but i shall leave the story for another day....
Recently i have actually been reading Romance of the three kingdoms aka San Guo Yan Yi... but of coz i read engrish version wan i'm now at chapter 89 of 120 liao wahahah.. i realise that some of the pharses that some of us use are derieved from that era and the pharse xiong di ru shou zhu nu ren ru yi fu was already in use back then hmmm...
Every idoms or pharse in the chinese language usually have a story behind it and if i'm not wrong the pharse guo wu guan chaung liu jiang was born in the 3 kingdom era... Actually that phase was used to praise Guan Yu aka Guan Gong coz there was this story in the 3 kingdoms era whereby Guan Yu was seperated with his Big Brother aka Liu Bei and had no choice but to join Cao Cao in order to protect his Liu Bei's family coz Cao Cao has already taken over the place where Liu Bei's family resides in...
Once he found out where is Liu Bei's whereabouts he went immediately set off to find him and in the process he went through 5 pass aka gates aka enterence aka customs and killed 6 generals so the pharse was formed... And the 7 step poem aka Qi bu shi is also from that era wan... ben shi tong ken shen..... xiang jian he tai ji...
I also realised that most of my friends who are more profficient with chinese are ususally those who reads comics and those who goes ktv very often... so y not instead of making the syllabus "easier" they should try to make the lesson more interesting by doing away with the textbooks, allowing more flexibility when teaching get students to read comics, listen to radio, sing ktv in klass? whahahahah i think i am mad...
And lastly i hate last minute!!!!!! y does the person who say that we should be more responsible tell didn't tell me that the ORD dinner is today and i muz wait for another person to tell me this morning!!!! And the blardy dinner costs 100 lorlaz some more i already paid liao coz dun pay cannot sign clearance!!!! ARghhGHghghGH!!
